Vietnam's Ministry of National Defense held a ceremony in Hanoi on Monday to hand over decisions signed by the state president and the defense minister to send three officers to the United Nations peacekeeping missions in the Central African Republic, South Sudan, and Abyei.
Among them, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Sy Hieu, a former lecturer at the Air Defense-Air Force Academy, will take on the position of a military observer at the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic.
Major Nguyen Thi Thanh Loan, a former lecturer at the Army Academy, will serve as a logistics officer for the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei.
Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Tien Long, former assistant to the political department of Navy Zone 4 Command, will serve as a military observer at the United Nations Mission in South Sudan.

Speaking at the ceremony, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Deputy Minister of National Defense, said the three officers are excellent members of the People's Army of Vietnam.
He expected the trio to quickly grasp the situation in their respective areas, perform their assigned tasks, and ensure their safety.
On behalf of the three officers, Hieu said joining the United Nations peacekeeping missions is an honor and a great responsibility.
They have been prepared with professional knowledge, foreign language skills, good health, bravery, determination, and political trust.
Vietnam has sent some 800 officers and soldiers to join UN peacekeeping missions so far.
