The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam has nominated Minister of Public Security To Lam to be the country’s new state president and Standing Vice-Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man to be the country’s top legislator.
The nominations were made during the closing session of the 9th plenum of the 13th Party Central Committee that was held under the chair of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on Saturday morning.
Born in 1957 in the northern province of Hung Yen, To Lam was appointed as deputy minister of public security in August 2010 and then head of this ministry in April 2016.
He also serves as member of the Politburo and deputy head of the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption.
As for Tran Thanh Man, born in 1962 in the southern province of Hau Giang, he had held various posts during his time in the hometown and neighboring Can Tho City.
He used to be chairman of the Can Tho City administration and secretary of the Can Tho Party Committee.
Man became vice chairman of the country’s law-making National Assembly in April 2021.
The 13th Party Central Committee announced the government personnel nominations after former State President Vo Van Thuong and former Chairman of the National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue resigned from their posts.
Previously, the Vietnamese legislature dismissed Vo Van Thuong from his posts of President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for the 2021-26 tenure and Deputy of the 15th National Assembly at an extraordinary meeting in Hanoi on March 21.
Reports from the Central Inspection Commission and relevant authorities indicate that Thuong breached regulations prohibiting certain actions for Party members.
Thuong also failed to fulfill the responsibility of setting an example for officials and Party members, particularly crucial for members of the Politburo, the Secretariat, and the Party Central Committee.
On May 2, the country’s law-making body agreed to remove Vuong Dinh Hue from the legislature chair role for the 2021-26 term and to relieve him of the duty as a deputy of the 15th National Assembly.
The 13th Party Central Committee had convened a meeting in Hanoi on April 26 to discuss and give opinions on relieving Hue of all his political roles and ending his public service.
According to the Central Inspection Commission and relevant authorities, Hue had flouted regulations prohibiting certain actions for Party members.
He failed to meet the obligation of demonstrating exemplary behavior for officials and Party members, which is especially vital for those in the Politburo, Secretariat, and Party Central Committee.
