Vietnam’s ship 09 of the Naval Region 2's Brigade 171 arrived at a port in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, southern Vietnam on Saturday afternoon, marking the end of a nearly-3,000-nautical-mile journey to participate in the fifth Multilateral Naval Exercise Komodo in Indonesia within 22 days.
The ship's return was warmly welcomed by Rear Admiral Le Ba Quan, commander of the Naval Region 2.
The mission team and ship 09 embarked on the at-sea exercise on February 8.
During the exercise, they participated in a series of naval drills alongside forces from Malaysia and host Indonesia, as part of the tactical Group 5.
The practical phase of the exercise involved 15 countries, 25 ships, and 20 aircraft, featuring such activities as communication drills, fleet maneuvering, flag signaling, law enforcement on the seas, aerial photography, and simulated search and rescue operations.
One such scenario involved a burning cruise ship and passengers drifting in the ocean.
The Vietnamese naval team strictly followed international defense and diplomatic regulations.
Their participation was commended by both the host and the navies of the other participating countries, with particular praise for their impeccable safety standards and operational effectiveness.
Despite challenging weather conditions and varying sea states along the journey, the Vietnamese team and the crew of ship 09 worked cohesively, overcoming obstacles and staying on course.

Besides, the Vietnamese naval team also joined multiple community activities, including beach clean-up, mangrove planting, and a turtle release program, as part of the commitments to promoting environmental conservation alongside military cooperation.
Vietnam’s participation in the fifth exercise has significantly strengthened the friendship and bilateral ties between the Vietnam People’s Navy and the Indonesian Navy, as well as other participating nations.
It reinforced mutual understanding and trust, emphasized the ability to coordinate effectively in responding to shared challenges, and supported humanitarian initiatives.
The successful mission underlined Vietnam's ongoing commitment to regional peace, maritime security, and cooperation, further contributing to the stability and development of both the region and the world.
