Petimex’s boss arrested for $6mln worth petroleum smuggling

An investigation agency under the Ministry of Public Security has decided to arrest Nguyen The Dung, chairman of the board members cum general manager of Dong Thap Petroleum Trading Co (Petimex) for smuggling.

He will be detained for 4 month for investigation before being prosecuted for the charge.

Petimex is one of a few local enterprises allowed to be a petroleum wholesaler, and has the right to import and export petroleum products.

According to initial reports, Mr. Dung has earned some $6 million from the smuggling of nearly 6,000 tons of assorted oil products since 2012.

The volume of imported oil has been disguised as the products for temporary import for re-export, and then secretly sold to other neighboring countries.

Earlier, on August 23, the investigation agency arrested Vi Van Dung who is living in the northern province of Quang Ninh on the charges of abusing trust to appropriate property and smuggling.

On May 5, 2012, Vi Van Dung bought 5 diesel boat of Petimex, a total of 975 tons, and then sold to China deploying the mechanism of temporary import for re-export.
