A third-grade girl was raped Wednesday right before the start of school time on the campus of her primary school in the south-central Vietnamese province of Ninh Thuan, police officers said Thursday.

The rapist escaped the scene and has been hunted by police.

The victim is seriously injured, according to the Ninh Thuan General Hospital.

The schoolgirl was driven by her father to Thanh Hai 1 Elementary School in Thanh Hai Commune of Phan Rang-Thap Cham City at 6:00 am on May 13, police said, citing the victim.

While walking down the stairs from her class to the school yard to play with her classmates, the girl was stopped by a young man and forced to go to the toilet.

She was slapped once on her face before being sexually assaulted in the toilet. The violator even threatened to kill her if she revealed it before sneaking away.

After finishing her exam, she went home and reported the whole case to her parents.

She identified the violator as a young man wearing a yellow jersey and a red helmet, and having tattoos on his arm and chest.

The case was only reported to local police in Thanh Hai after 9:00 am on Wednesday.

Now, provincial police are tracing the culprit.
