-- Party chief Nguyen Phu Trong, Prime Minster Nguyen Xuan Phuc, State President Tran Dai Quang, and several former leaders on Saturday paid tribute to late President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum and laid wreaths at the Heroic Martyrs’ Monument in Hanoi on the occasion of the 88th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam.


-- Bui Xuan Cuong, director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, has stated that efforts will be exerted to eliminate regular traffic congestion at the My Thuy Roundabout, located near the entrance of Cat Lai Port in District 2.

-- A national association specialized in the protection of animals was officially established during a ceremony in the central city of Da Nang on Saturday, following a decision of the Ministry of Home Affairs.   

-- Police in the southern province of Binh Phuoc on Friday confiscated over 1.2 metric tons of animal products without legitimate origin, which was transported by 32-year-old Che Quang Huy in his car.

-- Officers under the General Department of Vietnam Customs, in coordination with the Hanoi Department of Finance, have destroyed over 13,000 cigars that had been caught being smuggled from Cuba into Vietnam via Noi Bai International Airport.

-- Police in Rach Gia City, in the southern province of Kien Giang, have finalized their investigation and suggested Tran Van Long, 28, be prosecuted for assaulting five-year-old T.T.P., who is his stepdaughter.

-- Police in the northern province of Quang Ninh searched the house of Nguyen Van Phong and confiscated about 250 kilograms of firecrackers on Friday night.


-- Large volumes of foreign beer and alcoholic beverages have been imported and sold to the market in Ho Chi Minh City ahead of the Lunar New Year, which begins on February 16, creating competition against domestic products.


-- A special meeting between Vietnam’s U23 football team and their fans in Ho Chi Minh City is scheduled to take place at the Thong Nhat Stadium in District 10 at 5:00 pm on Sunday. The event will be aired on HTV1, HTV2, HTV9, and HTV Sports.
