A man from Vietnam’s Central Highlands was arrested for illegally making and keeping a number of firearms, police said on Thursday.

Nguyen Quoc Thang, who told police he is a barber, is being detained by law enforcement in Dak Lak Province and facing charges for the unlawful possession and creation of military weapons.

During a police raid on his home on Tuesday, the 32-year-old man was caught red-handed decanting air from an air compressor into the reservoir of an airgun.

Officials seized explosives, multiple lead-bullet guns, hundreds of lead bullets, and gun-building equipment.

Thang willingly handed police officers two flintlock rifles and two airguns, all homemade.

The man said he learned how to build the guns from tutorials on the Internet using equipment that was delivered to him by post.

He claimed he built the guns for hunting.

Vietnam bans civilians from using or storing guns and ammunition.
