Two men died in southern Vietnam after being smashed by a passenger bus travelling at high speed on Sunday morning.

Officials said a long-haul bus slammed into a man crossing the 51 National Route in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, a neighboring province of Ho Chi Minh City, at around 3:00 am.

This victim died in hospital due to severe injuries.

Right after that the vehicle mounted the sidewalk and hit two men who were drinking there.

One of them saw the incoming bus and attempted to run away in vain. He died on the spot while the other was seriously wounded.

The bus then kept hurtling in the same direction and crashed into several parking motorbikes and a utility pole.

Police brought the driver, a 40-year-old man, in for investigation.

The vehicle caused the accident while running to a coach terminal in Ba Ria-Vung Tau from the other terminal in the southwestern province of An Giang, over 200 kilometers away.
