The driver of a tanker truck was killed when his vehicle hit another fuel truck before plunging off a cliff along the Hai Van Pass in central Vietnam.
The accident occurred at around 4:45 pm on Thursday, when Nguyen Khanh, 33, was driving his tanker truck with license plate number 38C-101.72 down the Hai Van Pass from the central province of Thua Thien-Hue to the central city of Da Nang.
Stretching approximately 21 kilometers along National Highway 1A, the mountain pass crosses the border between Thua Thien-Hue Province and Da Nang City.

As the vehicle made its descent down the pass, it crashed into another tanker truck traveling in the opposite direction driven by 34-year-old Nguyen Huu Tinh.
The collision caused Khanh’s truck to drive right through the guard rails and plunge off a ten-meter cliff.
The tanker truck driver was killed and flames erupted around the vehicle.

The driver’s assistant, Dao Trong My, was able to jump out of the truck before it caught fire, suffering only minor injuries.
Hundreds of officers and about 20 fire engines from the Da Nang Department of Firefighting and Prevention were dispatched to the site to deal with the accident.
The flame was put out about an hour later.
According to Dang Thi Be, an eyewitness, she heard several explosions and saw a lot of smoke coming from the truck.
