Police in Ho Chi Minh City have captured a man for allegedly beating up his girlfriend’s six-year-old daughter and torturing her with lit cigarettes.
Ha Quoc Viet, 36, and his girlfriend Duong Thao Duong, 25, have been living together in a rented house in District 12.
Duong has a six-year-old daughter, D.N.C., from a past relationship.
The couple recently brought the girl in from her hometown in the Mekong Delta province of Tra Vinh to live together in their rented house.

On Monday afternoon, the girl’s grandfather reported to police officers that she had been abused by Viet.
An investigation was initiated by District 12 police that led to the man’s urgent arrest on Tuesday afternoon.
Police said Viet and Duong were found under the influence of drugs when they made the arrest.

At the police station, Viet confessed to having inflicted wounds on the six-year-old girl with a whip and lit cigarettes.
An elaborate health examination showed that the victim suffers from multiple bruises and burns on almost every part of her body, including her genitals.
Hematomas were also found on her cheeks, chest, left arm, and buttocks.
Leaders of the district’s administration visited the victim on the same day and provided the girl with necessary assistance.
