An overpass at the Hoang Quoc Viet and Nguyen Van Huyen intersection in Cau Giay District, the largest of its kind in Hanoi, opened to traffic on Friday after over ten months of construction.

Work on the overpass first began in October 2019 at a cost of VND560 billion (US$24.16 million) sourced from the city’s budget.

Measuring 278 meters long and 16 meters wide, the structure has four lanes for motorized vehicles.

Rudimentary vehicles, trucks, tractors, special-use construction vehicles, vehicles with a height exceeding 3.5 meters, and pedestrians are not allowed on the overpass.

Instead, they can take the ground-level road, which offers six mixed-vehicle lanes.

The building of the overpass is meant to contribute to improving the transportation network in the districts of Cau Giay, Tay Ho, and Bac Tu Liem, while reducing traffic congestion in the area.

The project’s inauguration is also part of the activities throughout the capital city to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day, which falls on September 2.
