The Nga Tu So - Nga Tu Vong section of Hanoi’s elevated Ring Road No. 2 was officially inaugurated on Monday morning after two years and seven months of construction.
The section, which is only for cars, connects Nga Tu So Intersection with Nga Tu Vong Intersection as parts of elevated Ring Road No. 2 from Nga Tu So Intersection to Vinh Tuy Bridge.
Construction of the Nga Tu So Intersection - Vinh Tuy Bridge, which is 5.1km long and 19m wide, started in April 2018, at a cost of nearly VND9.5 trillion (US$410 million).
Site clearance cost over VND4.19 trillion ($181 million).
It was built by Vietnam's leading private conglomerate Vingroup under a build-transfer format.
The route is expected to reduce traffic congestion on downtown roads which are under pressure from heavy traffic in Hanoi.
The project also includes the future expansion of the existing road from Nga Tu Vong Intersection to Vinh Tuy Bridge, which is 3.1km long, to 53.5-63.5m in width. However, site clearance for the expansion still faces delays.
The opening of the Nga Tu So - Nga Tu Vong section prompted functional forces to reroute traffic at the Nga Tu So Intersection.
Vehicles on Tay Son Street are prohibited from turning left and going straight ahead at the Nga Tu So Intersection. They have to make a right turn into Lang Street and make a U-turn at the opening of the median strip to go on Truong Chinh Street or turn right to continue on Nguyen Trai Street.
