Police in the southern Vietnamese province of Tay Ninh have initiated the manhunt for two murder convicts who broke out of a local prison on Monday morning.

Lam Viet Phu Loc, 26, and Bui Nguyen Thien Thuan, 38, escaped from their cells at the Cay Cay detention center in Thanh Binh Commune, Tay Bien District, an official confirmed on Monday.

Loc was sentenced to life in prison for murder following the decision of the Tay Ninh People’s Court in 2017.

Thuan received a 27-year jail term in 2008 for murder and robbery.

The two inmates previously resided in Tay Ninh Province prior to their conviction.

According to the arrest warrant issued by local authorities, all residents have the right to arrest and escort the two prisoners to the nearest police station, procuracy, or People's Committee.

They can also report to the Cay Cay detention facility via phone number 0276 3733019 if they see the prisoners.
