An inter-sectoral inspection team from the People’s Committee of Nha Trang, a popula beach city of Khanh Hoa Province in south-central Vietnam, on Saturday afternoon conducted an unannounced check on the beachfront area leased to four-star Regalia Hotel, discovering the hotel had encroached on public beach space.

The hotel, located on Tran Phu Street, Nha Trang City, set up an excessive number of umbrellas and lounge chairs on the beach.

The inspection team noted that the hotel was using a beach area that measured 25 meters in length and 30.5 meters in width.

However, under the contract signed between the Nha Trang City Public Service Management Board and An Khanh Trung Trading and Service Co., Ltd., the hotel was only authorized to lease a section of the beach measuring 15 meters in length and 11.5 meters in width.

Given the findings, officials from the Nha Trang economic, infrastructure, and urban division determined that the hotel had unlawfully occupied and used a larger area of the beach than allowed by the contract.

Besides, the hotel was found to have set up 58 sunloungers and 15 umbrellas on the beach, while the rental agreement permits only six umbrellas and 24 lounge chairs for use by guests.

The inspection team instructed Regalia Hotel to stop using the illegally occupied beach area and remove the excess number of umbrellas and lounge chairs by 4:30 pm on Saturday.

In a noteworthy development, when authorities contacted the leadership of An Khanh Trung Trading and Service Co., Ltd. to clarify the situation, they were directed to N.X.Th., a 48-year-old representative of the company, who was responsible for overseeing the beach area.

When asked to provide relevant documents, Th. was only able to supply an appointment letter from the director of Nhat Tien Investment, Trade, and Service JSC, which named him as a staff member for beach operations.

“The contract appointing Th. only refers to his general responsibility for beach activities. It does not specify the exact area the inspection team was monitoring,” said an official.

The inspection team demanded that Th. provide the signed agreement with An Khanh Trung by April 3.

The inspection came after a series of reports by Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper, which highlighted that several hotels in Nha Trang, after being granted approval to lease beach space, have been subletting the areas to other parties.

This practice has led to several violations in the regulation of tourism management.
