Mother prosecuted for violence against daughter in northern Vietnam

The People’s Procuracy of Cam Giang District in Vietnam’s northern Hai Duong Province approved on Monday the prosecution against a 25-year-old local woman for intentionally physically abusing her own daughter.
Nguyen Thi Thu, the woman's own mother, had filed a complaint against her to police in Dinh Son Commune, Cam Giang.
On the night of March 6, police in Cam Giang received the report of Vu Thi Thuy’s violence against her six-year-old daughter, V.N.P.C., at her rental room in Tan Truong Commune in the same district.
The girl suffered multiple injuries and had to be hospitalized at the district’s medical center with bruises on her face and in a state of panic before being transferred to Hai Duong General Hospital on the same night.
During the investigation into the case, the functional force found out that 25-year-old Thuy had verbally and physically abused C., causing injuries on the girl’s body and locking her inside the room on February 18, February 20, March 4, and March 6.
Thuy had also hit C. in her eyes and used a bamboo stick to beat the child several times previously.
Based on the collected documents and evidence, Cam Giang District’s police started legal proceedings against Thuy for intentionally causing injuries to a child.
Currently, the investigation agency is not holding Thuy in custody as the woman is six months pregnant.
