A heavy rain accompanied by strong gusts battered Ho Chi Minh City late on Monday afternoon, knocking down many trees and a large billboard.
The downpour was the result of an enhanced monsoon, said Le Dinh Quyet, an official from the southern hydro-meteorological station.
According to the observations of Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reporters, powerful gusts uprooted many trees on Phan Van Tri Street in Go Vap District, Pham Van Dong Boulevard in Binh Thanh District, and Ton Duc Thang and Ly Tu Trong Streets in District 1.
One resident was slightly injured by an uprooted tree on Ton Duc Thang Street.

On Nguyen Van Huong Street in Thu Duc City, a large billboard, which was about 20 meters high, was knocked down, paralyzing traffic on the road for multiple hours.
The incident did not cause any casualties.
Traffic police and relevant units were promptly mobilized to deal with the uprooted trees and billboard.
