Police in Da Nang on Tuesday arrested two Chinese nationals for breaking into their compatriot’s house and stealing properties worth over VND3 billion (US$130,300) last week.
Following the arrest, Wang Bai Qiang, 38, and Chen Xiao Lie, 27, both temporarily residing in Ngu Hanh Son District, Da Nang, have been investigated for the charge of robbery.
Working as a chef for Chen Ji, a 42-year-old Chinese in the same district, Chen Xiao Lie knew Chen Ji’s house like the back of his hand, including a safe containing a large amount of cash and valuable properties placed in a bedroom on the second floor.
When Chen Ji was away from home on July 16, Wang successfully sneaked into his house under Chen Xiao Lie’s instruction but failed to open the safe.
Wang pulled the safe to hide it at another location in the house before escaping.

On the next day, Chen Xiao Lie entered Chen Ji’s house and brought the safe out while the homeowner was taking a nap.
Wang then carried the safe on a motorbike to a vacant land lot before using a crowbar to break its lock.
Before parting ways, Wang shared with Chen Xiao Lie a part of the properties in the safe, which contained US$11,000 and VND700 million ($30,400) in cash, two watches worth about $77,200, and many other foreign currencies. The stolen assets totaled more than VND3 billion.
As Chen Ji reported the disappearance of the safe to local police, officers quickly applied professional measures to determine Chen Xiao Lie as a suspect and managed to arrest both him and Wang.
