COVID-19 Updates

-- Vietnam on Saturday morning reported 3,991 new cases of COVID-19, including 2,070 cases in Ho Chi Minh City, increasing the country’s tally to 86,957, according to the Ministry of Health.

-- Ho Chi Minh City continues applying social distancing measures under the municipal People’s Committee’s directive No.16 from 0:00 on Saturday as the pandemic situation is still very complicated, according to vice-chairman Duong Anh Duc.

-- Hanoi chairman Chu Ngoc Anh has decided to implement extensive social distancing measures under the prime minister’s Directive No. 16 from 6:00 am on Saturday.

-- The Hanoi Center for Disease Control (HCDC) announced on Friday afternoon that it was looking for visitors to a grocery shop on Co Nhue Street, Bac Tu Liem District, where a COVID-19 patient had visited.

-- Police in the northern province of Hai Duong on Friday have arrested and initiated legal proceedings against the former deputy director of the provincial Department of Industry and Trade for fraud and property appropriation.

-- Police in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang on Friday have initiated legal proceedings against a 38-year-old man for violating COVID-19 prevention and control regulations and spreading the disease to his mother.

-- Two flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi have been suspended on Friday due to the lack of quarantine facilities for incoming passengers in Hanoi, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV).

Education

-- All members of the Vietnamese team earned six medals, including one gold, at the 62nd International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) organized between July 19 and 20 by Russia, the Ministry of Education and Training said on Friday.

-- Vietnamese students have recently won four medals at the 2021 International Biology Olympiad held by Portugal from July 18 to 23.
