Police officers from An Giang Province in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta have recently put a local man in temporary detention as he allegedly strangled a drinking friend’s daughter to death.
Tran Phuoc Tan, 39, had been arrested on charges of murder after admitting his criminal act, the provincial Department of Public Security said on Tuesday.
Tan got to know a friend’s 12-year-old daughter, V., in a drinking party at his accquaintance’s house earlier last week in Phu Tan District, according to initial investigation.
He then managed to lure V. out with a promise to buy her a smartphone for online learning before driving her to a motel in a nearby district where he rented a room for an overnight stay.

At around 10:00 am the next day, Tan took V. back home after going out to drink with some friends.
On the way back, she started crying out to urge the purchase of a phone, which drove Tan mad.
As his anger intensified, Tan led the child to a nearby mountain and strangled her to death.
The criminal record reveals that Tan was previously sentenced to 11 years behind bars for child rape.
Responding to conjecture about V. being molested before the murder, An Giang's police said they would conduct further investigation to confirm the issue.
