Hanoi plans $83.5mn package for reducing traffic gridlock

Authorities in Hanoi are expected to spend nearly VND1.9 trillion (US$83.5 million) on multiple programs aimed at reducing traffic congestion and ensuring traffic safety during the 2021-25 period.
In its newly-issued resolution, the municipal administration set a target of handling about seven to ten traffic points that often get congested every year, preventing the emergence of new gridlock points and traffic jams lasting more than 30 minutes.
The officials also aim to reduce the numbers of traffic accidents, traffic accident-related deaths and injuries by five to ten percent a year.
In order to realize those goals, the city government has submitted the planning of bus stations, parking lots, logistics centers, and rest stops in Hanoi until 2030, with a vision for 2050, to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh for approval.
The capital city will also renovate and decorate 180 roads in 12 districts after rearranging the current electricity and telecommunications lines and cables.
The total funding for the implementation of those programs is estimated to near VND1.9 trillion and will be distributed annually from the municipal budget.
