Vietnam reports 131,713 new coronavirus infections, 69 deaths

The Ministry of Health registered 131,713 COVID-19 patients in Vietnam on Monday, together with 179,640 recoveries and 69 virus-related deaths.

The newest cases, including four imported and 131,709 domestic transmissions, were detected in all 63 provinces and cities, the health ministry said.

Hanoi recorded 17,916 of the latest local cases, Nghe An Province 5,403, Phu Tho Province 5,348, Bac Ninh Province 4,295, Bac Giang Province 3,908, Yen Bai Province 3,755, Hai Duong Province 3,620, Quang Binh Province 2,853, Ca Mau Province 2,714, Quang Ninh Province 2,638, Binh Duong Province 2,452, Lam Dong Province 1,729, Ho Chi Minh City 1,487, Vinh Long Province 1,438, Tay Ninh Province 1,194, Da Nang 788, Hai Phong City 758, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province 692, and Can Tho City 173.

The health ministry reported 166,205 infections on Sunday.

Vietnam has documented 8,082,091 community transmissions in all its 63 provinces and cities since the fourth virus wave broke out on April 27, 2021. More than 4.2 million of them have recovered from COVID-19.

Hanoi is the largest virus hotbed with 1,188,288 patients, followed by Ho Chi Minh City with 584,234, Binh Duong Province with 362,009, Nghe An Province 351,251, Hai Duong Province 317,845, Bac Ninh Province 299,890, Ca Mau Province 121,411, Tay Ninh Province with 114,829, Hai Phong City 110,396, Dong Nai Province with 105,107, Binh Phuoc Province 100,086, Da Nang with 86,691, and Can Tho City with 48,079.

Vietnam logged only 1,570 locally-transmitted infections in total in the previous three waves.

The health ministry announced 179,640 recovered patients on Monday, raising the national count to 4,282,668.

The toll has increased to 41,949, with 69 pathogen-related deaths added today. 

Vietnam has confirmed 8,089,761 cases in total since the COVID-19 pandemic first hit the country in early 2020.

Health workers have administered upwards of 201.8 million vaccine doses, including 167,693 shots on Sunday, since vaccination was rolled out nationwide on March 8, 2021.

Above 184.7 million doses have been given to the adult demographic of the country’s 98 million people, including 70,943,341 first shots, 67,884,313 second doses, 14,650,864 additional primary jabs, and 29,793,984 boosters.    

A combined 17.059.399 shots have been injected into children aged 12-17, including 8,753,306 first doses and 8,306,093 second jabs.
