An earthquake measuring 3.4 on the Richter scale shook Kon Plong District of Kon Tum Province in the Central Highlands of Vietnam on Friday.

The quake occurred at 9:37 am at the depth of 10 kilometers, according to the Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Center under the Institute of Geophysics.

The tremor did not pose a disaster risk, the center said, adding that it continued to monitor aftershocks.

A total of 169 earthquakes have been reported in Kon Tum Province since 2021.

About 22 earthquakes of magnitude from 2.5 to 4.5 on the Richter scale were recorded in the locality from April 15 to 18, 2022 alone.

Relevant agencies have set up additional monitoring stations in order to better understand and promptly warn of dangerous geological phenomena, if any.
