Rising river water has flooded a middle school in Bien Hoa City in Vietnam’s southern Dong Nai Province, causing the school management to allow more than 3,600 students to stay home for safety reasons, local educational authorities have reported.
All the 3,610 students of Phuoc Tan 1 Middle School, in the city’s Phuoc Tan Ward, have been allowed to stay at home as the schoolyard has been inundated completely with water from the rising Buong River from Wednesday afternoon, the city’s Bureau of Education and Training confirmed on Thursday morning.
The road in front of the school has been inundated at a depth of around 20 centimeters.
These students will return to their classes on Friday morning and the school will arrange make-up classes for them, said Vo Van Minh, head of the bureau.

Earlier on Wednesday morning, water from the upstream of the river began to pour into Phuoc Tan, submerging the school and surrounding areas.
Facing the situation, the school management decided to end the class sooner than usual and asked parents to come and take their children home on Wednesday afternoon.
They also issued a notice for all students to take a day off on Thursday for safety reasons.
More than 1,100 households and many companies, factories, and motels in the ward have been flooded, with many areas being under 1-1.2 meters of floodwater, said Tran The Bien, chairman of the ward administration.
No casualties were reported but some household properties, cars, and motorbikes were damaged during the flooding, which has receded gradually from Wednesday night, Bien said.
