A number of endangered tortoise and turtle species, including ten impressed tortoises and 15 big-headed turtles, have lately been found at Pu Hu Nature Reserve in Thanh Hoa Province, north-central Vietnam, according to the nature reserve's management board on Wednesday.
The management board of Pu Hu Nature Reserve has evaluated the present population state, animal morphology and behavior, diet, and habitat of the two turtle species in order to create a map of species distribution.
The unit also informed local officials and residents of how to promote the preservation of turtle species within the nature reserve.
The impressed tortoise, scientifically known as Manouria impressa, is a member of the order Testudinata.

The reptile's legs are cylinder-shaped, its carapace is not high-lifted, and its plastron is yellow with brown fringes.
This species inhabits cracks and humid valleys that are 1,500 meters above sea level.
Fallen fruits, grass sprouts, and mushrooms are their main sources of sustenance.
This turtle has been spotted around the world, including China, Thailand, and Laos.
In Vietnam, the species has been found in some provinces such as Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Lao Cai, Lai Chau, and Tuyen Quang.

The big-headed turtle, whose scientific name is Platysternon megacephalum, belongs to the Platysternidae family.
This turtle has a large head that cannot retract into its shell, a grey carapace, and a lengthy tail.
Typically, big-headed turtles inhabit forest streams and feed at twilight or night.
Small fish, mollusks, crabs, earthworms, and other invertebrates make up the bulk of the diet of big-headed turtles.
