A tropical depression in the East Vietnam Sea is expected to move toward the waters off Quang Ngai to Phu Yen Provinces in south-central Vietnam before weakening into a low-pressure system, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

As of 7:00 am on Thursday, the center of the tropical depression was located in the western area of the central East Vietnam Sea, carrying wind speeds of 39-49 kph near its center and gusts of up to 74 kph.

The system is currently moving northwest at a speed of 5-10 kph.

Forecasts indicate that throughout the day and night, the tropical depression will maintain its direction and speed, with little chance of strengthening further.

Its center is expected to be offshore between Quang Ngai and Phu Yen by 7:00 am on Friday.

It will then continue moving northwest at the same speed and is expected to weaken into a low-pressure system within the next 24 hours.

Current forecasts suggest that it is unlikely to strengthen into a storm or make landfall in Vietnam, the center stated.

Due to the impact of the depression, strong winds of up to 74 kph will affect the western part of the central East Vietnam Sea and the southwestern part of the northern East Vietnam Sea, including the waters around Vietnam’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago.

These conditions will result in rough seas, with wave heights reaching 2-4 meters.

Offshore areas between Quang Ngai and Khanh Hoa Provinces will experience similar conditions.

Starting Friday, rough seas are expected in the waters between Hue City in the north-central region and Binh Dinh Province in the south-central region, with waves rising to 2-3 meters.

Vessels operating in these hazardous areas are advised to take caution as they may encounter thunderstorms, strong winds, and high waves.
