More and more coffee shops in Da Nang, central Vietnam are offering archery services, creating a new activity for young people.

These venues, with a unique blend of relaxation and physical activity, are drawing attention from the city’s youth.

One weekend, Nguyen Hoang Nam and his friends were deeply focused on assembling their bows and shooting at a coffee shop on Vo Nghia Street in Phuoc My Ward, Son Tra District.

In the past, Nam often met up with his friends at various spots around town on weekends.

However, since the archery cafe model became popular, the group has made it their weekend hangout. 

They sip coffee, relax, and occasionally engage in a shooting contest to determine who will pay for the drinks.

“We initially tried it out just for fun, but ended up getting hooked on it,” Nam shared.

"Archery helps me focus, maintain balance, and control my breath."

Patrons can learn basic techniques with guidance from professional instructors at archery cafés.

Some coffee shops host small competitions to allow customers to interact and improve their skills.

Pham Quoc Thai, the manager of CEN Archery & Coffee - Tea, a café that offers Japanese-style archery and coffee services, said that though it is a new model, the number of patrons coming in to learn and play archery is growing steadily.

“The shop welcomes dozens of young people daily, and on weekends, the café is always packed. Many have become long-term members,” Thai said.

With an affordable fee of VND100,000 (US$3.94) per hour, archery is becoming a new, healthy leisure activity for people of all ages.

Apart from archery cafés, several clubs have been opened to meet the demand for professional training.
