A bridge and road project connecting Vietnam’s southern provinces of Binh Duong and Tay Ninh, both neighbors of Ho Chi Minh City, was completed and opened to traffic on Monday.
The six-lane bridge, which stretches 330 meters across the Saigon River, is expected to shorten travel time between the two provinces, and enhance connectivity in the southeastern region.
In order to ease access to the bridge, authorities in Binh Duong built a 377-meter approach road, while the administration in Tay Ninh built a 92-meter approach road.

Specifically, the bridge spans the river between Dau Tieng District, Binh Duong Province and Duong Minh Chau District, Tay Ninh Province.
The new route over the Saigon River will allow vehicles traveling on provincial road No. 744 in Binh Duong to travel directly to Tay Ninh, instead of taking a roundabout route through Dau Tieng Town, Binh Duong into Duong Minh Chau District, Tay Ninh.
Nguyen Tan Tai, director of the Tay Ninh Department of Transport, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that thanks to the new bridge, the route from Tay Ninh to the under-construction Long Thanh International Airport in Dong Nai Province and deep-water ports in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province will be shortened by 20-30 kilometers.

As a result, transport time will be reduced and commuters and haulers will be able to avoid National Highways 22 and 22B, both of which are often congested.
The two provinces invested a combined VND1 trillion (US$42.3 million) in the project.
In particular, Binh Duong spent VND411 billion ($17.4 million) on the bridge and the approach road from the bridge to provincial road No. 744. Work on the bridge and the road began in October 2020.

The approach road is rated for max speeds of 80 kilometers per hour. In addition, a road next to the bridge rated for speeds of 20 kilometers per hour has been finished.
In Tay Ninh, more than VND517 billion ($21.8 million) was invested in the 16.9-kilometer Dat Set-Ben Cui road expansion project to connect the bridge with the provincial road network. The project was kicked off in August 2018.
The Dat Set-Ben Cui road originally boasted four lanes but was then expanded to six lanes. Four of those lanes are currently open to traffic while the other two are still under construction.
