Northern Vietnam is forecast to experience the cold and wet atmosphere accompanied by drizzle, fog, and low temperatures at night and early in the morning in early February.
The ongoing dry and frigid weather in northern provinces is expected to last until the end of Tuesday, said Nguyen Van Huong, head of the weather forecasting department under the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.
Starting February, the dry air will turn humid.
The region will see a high chance of shower, drizzle, and fog, as well as low temperatures at night and early in the morning from Thursday.
“Shower, drizzle, and fog are seasonal weather conditions that often appear in northern Vietnam in spring, when humidity in the air increases,” Huong elaborated.
“Such high humidity can cause discomfort and affect daily activities of local residents.
“High humidity is also a favorable environment for pathogens that cause respiratory diseases and allergies, especially for young children and the elderly.”
In the second half of February, cold spells will likely be more active in northern Vietnam, thus the region’s average temperatures will be about 0.5-1 degree Celsius lower than previous years.
