Vietnamese users spent more than 37 million hours browsing for products via live streams on an e-commerce platform in 2022, a report showed.

Popular e-commerce platform Shopee on Tuesday released a report predicting Vietnam's digital economy in 2023 along with three main consumption trends of local users.

In 2022, Vietnamese users spent more than 37 million hours on Shopee Live interacting with their favorite sellers to learn about the products they were interested in before placing orders.

They also expected more value and a more complete online experience from Shopee Live.

An increasing number of users shared their feedback and reviews about purchased products, helping other buyers make better purchasing decisions.

In addition to major cities, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, and Hai Phong had the highest number of orders on Shopee, with products in housing and life, health and beauty, and fashion recording the most orders.

Suburban users were increasingly familiar with interacting with brands and merchants through live streams, and were gradually turning to cashless payment.

The report showed that the most active user group belongs to the age group of 18 to 34, having 1.5 times more orders than the average order volume of a user in 2022.

Young users were interested in categories such as health and beauty, fashion, electronics, and home appliances, with skincare products, women's fashion, smartphones, and accessories receiving the most orders.

“Although online platforms are widely used, I think the digital economy in Vietnam still has a lot of long-term opportunities,” said Tran Tuan Anh, executive director of Shopee Vietnam.

“Technology will continue to play an important role in people's lives in 2023,” Anh stated.
