VinCSS, a Vietnamese cybersecurity startup, has just announced an initiative aimed at protecting smart car software and data from phishing attacks and unauthorized changes.
VinCSS's vehicle security solution was presented at the FIDO Munich Seminar 2024 in Berlin, Germany.
In front of hundreds of technology leaders from around the world, the Vietnamese firm presented their idea, which considerably improves security for smart automobiles.
VinCSS's security solution makes use of the FIDO Device Onboarding (FDO) Protocol designed by the FIDO Alliance (Fast Identity Online - Fidoalliance.org).
FDO allows IoT devices to be integrated into a smart automobile in a simpler and more secure manner, as the protocol ensures that only authenticated entities can communicate with devices and vehicles.
By creating a secure environment, the FDO Protocol protects the software and data of a smart car from phishing attacks and unauthorized alterations.
This prevents hackers from decoding and installing malware on the car.
Nowadays, a smart car can integrate a wide range of software, exceeding that of Facebook, Microsoft Office, or even a Boeing 787.
Ironically, these complex pieces of software can include backdoors for hackers, allowing them to execute cyberattacks that jeopardize the vehicle's navigation capability, safety, and privacy.
The number of smart vehicles is expected to exceed 470 million by 2025, posing major global cybersecurity challenges.
Since 2016, the total number of automotive-related cyberincidents has surged 605 percent. This year's smart car attacks are expected to cause US$505 billion in financial damage.
VinCSS previously launched a world-first FDO network implementation solution in Taipei, Taiwan. This network accelerates the installation and management of network devices by tenfold, while also enhancing convenience and security.
In 2023, the Vietnamese startup was successful in presenting an FDO smart parking solution at the FIDO APAC Summit.
VinCSS launched the world's first smart cameras with FDO in Tokyo, Japan, in 2022, and the startup became the first enterprise to succeed in bringing FDO to market.
