Police officers in Dong Thap Province, southern Vietnam raided a household business on Thursday where they found four tonnes of frozen dead cats and 480 live felines.
Tran Thi Ngan, a 63-year-old representative of the Lai Vung District-based facility, which is owned by 39-year-old Nguyen Huy Quyen, admitted to having the live cats sent to Ho Chi Minh City for consumption and the frozen felines delivered to the northern region to make bone glues.
The discovery is the result of an inspection at Quyen’s household at around 10:20 am on Thursday, upon which his staff failed to show certificates of veterinary hygiene, qualification for cold storage of animal products, and the origin of the four tonnes of frozen dead cats and the 480 live felines.

There has been no further information on penalties for this household business and the owner.
