A man has been hospitalized since Saturday after he was attacked by two dogs while jogging in Lao Cai Province, northern Vietnam.

A representative of Lao Cai General Hospital said on Sunday that the patient, Hoang V., suffered about ten large wounds across his body upon his hospital admission.

V.’s account indicated that two big dogs repeatedly bit him in his legs and arms while he was jogging in Nam Cuong Ward, Lao Cai City at around 5:00 pm on Saturday.

“When I was attacked, I tried to fight back, but the two dogs bit my legs and arms and knocked me down,” V. recounted.

“They then continued to bite me.

“Fortunately, a passer-by helped and took me to hospital for emergency treatment.”

“Following the emergency treatment, the patient was transferred to the trauma department for further care,” said the representative.

“The patient is now mentally stable.”

The representative added that wounds caused by dog bites have a lot of bacteria, can contain toxins, and entail a high risk of infection.

“We have to monitor the patient’s wounds for a few days, if there is no risk of infection, then we can suture them,” said the representative.
