A forest at the entrance to Da Lat City in Vietnam’s Central Highlands province of Lam Dong was on fire since Friday afternoon.

The forest, located along the Prenn Mountain Pass, which is the main route connecting Da Lat with southern Vietnamese localities for all vehicles but is currently temporarily closed for upgrading, was still burning as of 8:30 pm on the day, as witnessed by Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper.

Firefighters battled to contain the spread of the forest fire, which a local said broke out at around 3:00 pm and started raging at around 8:00 pm.

The blaze was largely contained by 0:00 on Saturday, with only some small clusters of fire flickering.

A leader of the forest protection department of Da Lat told Tuoi Tre that the area where the wildfire occurred is a protection forest.

Firefighters continued to pump water to prevent the fire from reigniting.
