The APAX Leaders English-language center system announced on Saturday that it had reopened 33 centers nationwide, including three in Ho Chi Minh City, while the municipal Department of Education and Training has yet to approve the reopening of these centers.
The three centers are in the Him Lam apartment building in District 6, on Le Duc Tho Street in Go Vap District, and on Phan Xich Long Street in Phu Nhuan District, according to Apax Leaders’ notice sent to parents.
The English-language center chain made an apology and expressed its gratitude to parents and students, while informing that Chungdahm, a private education company in South Korea, is currently a provider of teaching curricula for Apax Leaders.
It also claimed that it had completed the recruitment of teachers, who are native English speakers and those from Europe.
However, the chain will not handle parents’ withdrawal of tuition fees as it is restructuring its system.
A representative of APAX Leaders in March promised to refund 20 percent of the prepaid tuition fees to parents whose amounts have been determined on June 9, 40 percent on July 20, and 40 percent on August 20.
The rest will get their refunds five times from October to April next year in installments of 20 percent each.
Apax Leaders had earlier proposed resuming the operation of its centers in District 6 and Go Vap District, Ho Tan Minh, head of the office of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Saturday.
However, the department has yet to allow Apax Leaders to reopen the centers.
The department is still verifying the chain’s infrastructure and teacher quality, Minh added.
Earlier, many parents had accused APAX Leaders of appropriating tuition fees as the chain accepted the tuition for long-term courses but failed to run classes.
Many former employees also accused the chain of owing them their salaries.
