Police in District 12, Ho Chi Minh City arrested and launched legal proceedings against a 69-year-old man for his act of violence against an old woman living at the nursing home where he works.

The People’s Procuracy of District 12 authorized the arrest and prosecution of Huynh Van Gioi, a resident of the district, for the investigation of his abuse against others.

A person used their cellphone to capture Gioi beating and yelling at V.T.T., 85, originally from Tan Binh District, who is one of 14 habitants at Quan Tro Trang Khuyet, a sheltered accommodation for homeless and needy old people.

This person then shared the video they filmed on social media, causing public outrage and prompting police officers to look into the case.

Officers determined that Gioi has been employed by Trang Khuyet Charity Fund and Social Protection One Member Co. Ltd. to manage Quan Tro Trang Khuyet, located on Ha Huy Giap Street in Thanh Loc Ward, District 12 since 2020.

Trang Khuyet Company was licensed for operation by the Department of Planning and Investment of Ho Chi Minh City in 2020 as a member of Tuoi Gia An Vui Nursing JSC, which is based in Tan Binh District.

Gioi’s daily task was to look after and take care of the elderly people residing at the nursing home.

While providing care, Gioi physically assaulted and verbally abused T., as evidenced in the recorded video.

T.’s health condition is currently in a stable state.
