The educational administrators of Nha Be District in Ho Chi Minh City said on Friday that they had stopped a teacher from his work after accusations of his sexual harassment toward female students during class hours emerged on social media.
The Bureau of Education and Training of Nha Be Ditsrict is clarifying the allegations against N.M.H., a math teacher at Nguyen Binh Khiem Middle School, located in the same district, as per an order from the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City.
The images circulated on social media showed that H. displayed inappropriate behaviors toward a female pupil during a math class, including actions like leaning his cheek against hers, putting his arm around her shoulder and placing his hand on her lower back.
“These are just a few pictures I received from my niece, captured by her friend after multiple instances of harassment directed toward her and other girls,” a user, who claimed to be the aunt of the schoolgirl in the photos, wrote in a Facebook post.
The user said her family visited H. to question him about the images, but the teacher denied the accusations, explaining one of the photos as accidental contact while bending down to pick up an item that led to touching the girl’s thigh.
Additionally, according to the Facebook user, the teacher had previously threatened the students not to disclose the incidents to their parents, warning them of consequences in their academic performances.
The teacher even enticed the children by offering to buy things they liked, including mentioning buying underwear for them.
While the Bureau of Education and Training of Nha Be Ditsrict said H. was temporarily suspended from his duties, a representative of Nguyen Binh Khiem Middle School revealed that the teacher admitted to “having drawbacks” and submitted a request for unpaid leave until December 1, 2023, in order to retire as per his wish.
