A second-grade student in Dak Lak Province caused a stir on Thursday after falling fast asleep on a six-meter-high mango tree, prompting an entire village to search for him.
Le Huu Hung, deputy head of the education and training bureau in Dak Lak’s Cu Kuin District, confirmed receiving reports about the incident on Friday morning.
The family of the missing student from Be Van Dan Elementary School in the district’s Cu Ew Commune contacted the police and asked neighbors to help search for their nine-year-old child after his afternoon class on Thursday.
According to Hung, the student had climbed the mango tree outside his home to pick fruit and fell fast asleep on the branches.
When his parents returned from work and found him missing, they panicked and enlisted the help of neighbors and local authorities in the search.
It was not until around 11:00 pm that the boy was found sleeping on the tree, about six meters above the ground.
The police and locals worked together to safely bring the boy down.
The family reported that after hours of searching without success, they decided to contact authorities.
The large mango tree, with its wide canopy and dense branches, had concealed the boy as he slept nestled between two branches.
It was not until a careful search that the boy was spotted high up on the tree.
