A pod of about 10 dolphins gathered in the waters near Son Tra Peninsula in Da Nang City, central Vietnam on Thursday morning, creating a captivating scene that has been widely shared online.
In a one-minute video, the school of approximately 10 dolphins leaped out of the water, reaching heights of over a meter, while swimming.
In the background, the panoramic view of Da Nang and Son Tra Peninsula is left unfolding.
Vo Nguyen Thai Duy, who captured the footage on Thursday morning, revealed that as a fisherman, he had encountered dolphins near Son Tra Peninsula on two occasions before.
While he had previously witnessed dolphins swimming in groups from afar, Thursday was the first time he observed the mammals coming so close to the shore.
“As I embarked on the new fishing season, encountering dolphins served as a promising sign for me,” Duy said.
“Just as birds find a perch in favorable land, witnessing dolphins during my sea voyage filled me with immense joy.
“Therefore, I decided to capture the moment and share the video online.”
Nguyen Duc Vu, head of the Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang tourist beache management board, confirmed that the recorded footage of dolphins was captured in the vicinity of Mui Sung and Huc Lo off the peninsula.
Dolphins are naturally friendly toward humans, Vu said.
Previously, there were a few dolphins stranded ashore due to injuries.
However, this is the first time that many local people have observed a group of healthy dolphins joyfully swimming near the coastline.
“The presence of dolphins swimming near the shore is highly captivating, as it is uncommon to observe such a large sea mammal up close,” Vu said.
