Hanoi has named 52 streets and adjusted the length of two others in 15 outlying and inner-city districts, according to the Vietnamese capital city’s resolution on street naming passed on Tuesday afternoon.
Thirty-three of these streets were named after popular destinations, relic sites, and ancient citadels, while 19 were named after famous people.
A street in Hoang Mai District, for instance, was named for Vietnam’s late Party chief Do Muoi.
Do Muoi Street starts from the Giai Phong - Hoang Liet intersection to an intersection of Nam Du Street with Thanh Tri Bridge.
The Vietnamese capital city also adjusted the length of Ha Ke Tan Street in Hoang Mai District and Duong Duc Hien Street in the outlying district of Gia Lam.
Earlier, the municipal People’s Committee collected feedback on a draft resolution to name six streets after six islands in Vietnam's Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago, designated as a district administered by south-central Khanh Hoa Province, and altered the length of some streets in 2023.
The municipal administration, however, later did not add the names of these islands to the draft resolution submitted to the municipal People’s Council for approval.
