The Hanoi administration is collecting feedback on a draft resolution on naming six streets after six islands in Vietnam's Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago, designated as a district administered by Khanh Hoa Province, and adjusting the length of some streets in 2023.
The six streets, located in the outlying district of Gia Lam, may be named An Bang, Song Tu Tay, Nam Yet, Son Ca, Phan Vinh, and Tien Nu.
They are projected to measure 1.2-2 kilometers long and 8-10 meters wide, mostly starting from an intersection with Ly Thanh Tong Street
An Bang Street, for instance, would run from an intersection of Ly Thanh Tong Street with an overpass on the Hanoi-Hai Phong expressway to another intersection with the expressway.
Son Tu Tay Street would stretch from an intersection with Ly Thanh Tong Street in Da Ton Commune to an intersection with the expressway.
Similarly, Nam Yet Street would begin at an intersection with Ly Thanh Tong Street and end at an intersection leading to Da Ton’s Dao Xuyen Commune.
These six are among 58 streets that will be named in 15 inner-city and outlying districts, such as Cau Giay, Ha Dong, Hoang Mai, Thanh Tri, and Thuong Tin.
In addition, Hanoi plans to extend Ha Ke Tan Street in Hoang Mai District by 470 meters to an intersection of Dinh Cong Street with the Dinh Cong Bridge.
Duong Duc Hien Street in Gia Lam District would also be lengthened by 2.2 kilometers to an intersection with a road leading to Hanoi Industrial Textile Garment University.
The draft resolution on street naming will be submitted to the municipal People’s Council for consideration and approval at an upcoming meeting scheduled for early next month.
