Twenty-nine members of the U.S.-led Pacific Partnership 2023 (PP23) are constructing a campus for Hoa Dinh Tay Elementary School in Phu Hoa District under the south-central province of Phu Yen.
The construction is part of a series of the PP23's activities this year.
The partnership is an annual multinational mission for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief preparedness led by the U.S. government and is the largest of its kind in the Indo-Pacific region.
This year’s mission features nearly 1,500 personnel from the United States and partner nations such as Australia, Canada, Chile, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, and the UK, the Vietnam News Agency reported.
Colonel Claudine Calouri of the U.S. Navy, commander of the PP23, said that the construction of a new line of classrooms for the school was set to begin from July to August 18.
The building will cover some 107 square meters, featuring three rooms, and a school yard.
The soldiers of the U.S. Navy who are participating in the PP23 arrived in Phu Yen Province for this activity prior to July to ensure the progress of the work.
Besides, the group is set to repair Le Quy Don, Tran Phu and Hoa Hoi elementary schools in Phu Hoa District.
“Over the past few days, we have seen residents’ hospitality and friendliness. Teachers often visit the construction site to greet and support us,” Colonel Calouri said.
“For the next time, we will implement more meaningful programs,” she added.

“I am very glad to participate in such a meaningful activity for education as the field is put first in all nations,” said Corporal Baccaro Loremie Grace.
“Good educational environment will help students study better,” she underlined.
Susan Burns, U.S. Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, expects students at the school to be eager to go to school due to new classrooms.
The building will demonstrate the close partnership between Vietnam and the United States, she added.
Nguyen Xuan Nghi, deputy head of the education and training division in Phu Hoa District, said that the three underway classrooms will be put into operation in the upcoming academic year.
“On behalf of the district administration, I would like to thank the PP23 for its contribution to education in the province,” Nghi said.
