46-seater bus driver, owner fined $4,067 for cramming 56 passengers into vehicle in northern Vietnam

Traffic police stopped a 46-seater bus carrying 56 people on the Phap Van-Cau Gie-Cao Bo-Mai Son National Highway 45 on Sunday afternoon, finding the driver without a driver’s license and issuing a VND102 million (US$4,067) fine to both the driver and the bus owner.

Traffic police officers from the Traffic Police Department under Vietnam's Ministry of Public Security stopped the bus which was traveling from north-central Thanh Hoa Province to Hanoi for a check on Sunday afternoon.

The bus, originally designed to have 46 seats, was found to be carrying a total of 56 passengers.

The driver had no driver’s license. He was fined for driving without a license and overloading the vehicle.

Meanwhile, the vehicle owner was subject to the fine for allowing an ineligible driver to steer the vehicle.

The bus was impounded.
