Police in Ho Chi Minh City said on Friday they issued an emergency detention order for 25 individuals for investigation into their gathering for illegal motorbike racing, disrupting public order earlier this week.
According to police, Quach Tuan Anh, 20, residing in District 4, sent text messages inviting Tran Doan The Hai, 20, residing in Binh Thanh District and several others to participate in illegal racing, aiming to compare and determine whose vehicle was faster.
Following this invitation, the group of young individuals joined a closed social media group to discuss the organization of the race.
The group divided into three smaller teams and proceeded to meet at the Saigon Bridge in Ward 22, Binh Thanh District.
At precisely 8:30 pm on Tuesday, they departed from Nguyen Huu Canh Street, crossed the Saigon Bridge, headed down Vo Nguyen Giap Boulevard in Thu Duc City, and then returned to the Saigon Bridge.
In total, they completed four rounds of this circuit before being caught red-handed by officers from the Ho Chi Minh City Road and Railway Traffic Police Unit (PC08) and the Binh Thanh District public security unit.

At the scene, police officers detained 40 individuals and seized 34 motorcycles.
On Wednesday morning, other participants in Tuesday night’s illegal race voluntarily surrendered to the police.
After an investigation process, on Friday, the Binh Thanh District public security unit issued urgent detention orders for 25 individuals for their involvement in disrupting public order.
According to police officers, the majority of the racing group were adolescents under 18 years old and had no driver’s licenses.
They utilized modified motorcycles to speedily maneuver in the car lanes, posing a danger to other road users.
Currently, the Binh Thanh District public security department continue their investigation to clarify the roles of the individuals within the group.
