Global travel guidebook publisher Lonely Planet has recommended various tourist destinations for foreign tourists to visit without spending a penny in bustling Ho Chi Minh City.

According to the publisher, Ho Chi Minh City is one of Southeast Asia’s best-value destinations.

“It's easy to enjoy a budget break when you can gobble down a street-side bowl of pho for a couple of bucks and soak up the buzz of life at street level for free,” Lonely Planet wrote.

Pho is Vietnam’s signature dish of fresh rice noodles with broth and meat.

Lonely Planet suggested taking an evening stroll along Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street in District 1.

The street gets busy on weekend evenings as tourists and local families promenade and enjoy street performers, or sip coffee in some of the city's coolest cafés.

Tourists should not miss out on exploring the apartment building at 42 Nguyen Hue, an Instagram hotspot, chock-full of boutiques and trendy places to sip and snack.

Nestled in District 10, Ho Thi Ky Flower Market is Ho Chi Minh City’s largest and operates 24/7.

It is bustling, especially in the early morning. The market's vibrant flowers make for stunning photos, and food stalls offer a variety of inexpensive snacks for hungry shoppers.

Running along the edge of the main backpacker area of Bui Vien and Pham Ngu Lao Streets, September 23 Park is a venue for many groups kicking around a shuttlecock.

The popular Vietnamese pastime known as da cau is like badminton for the feet, played with a feather-topped stack of plastic discs.

Lonely Planet also advised foreign tourists to admire the interior of the Saigon Central Post Office, experience the mercantile magic of Ben Thanh Market, gaze up at the spires of the Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica of Saigon, and listen to birdsong at Tao Dan Park in downtown District 1, visit the colorful Cao Dai Temple on Tran Hung Dao Street in District 5, and get dazzled by the colorful light show on Starlight Bridge in District 7, among others.
