The administration of Hanoi held a ceremony on Saturday morning to open the newly-constructed Nguyen Van Cu - Ngoc Thuy road to traffic in Long Bien District, marking the 70th anniversary of the capital’s Liberation Day (October 10).

With its price tag of approximately VND1.2 trillion (US$48.4 million), the 1.52km-long road, which links Nguyen Van Cu Street with Ngoc Thuy Dyke, is considered as the most beautiful one in the district.

The road features a 40-meter-wide cross-section and a 211-meter-long overpass.

The project required land clearance from around 485 households, individuals, and organizations, of which 176 households had to be relocated, according to Nguyen Viet Hung, deputy head of the project management board in Long Bien.

Work on the project commenced in 2018 and was initially scheduled to reach completion two years later.

However, challenges in site clearance and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic caused significant delays.

This new road provides a crucial traffic link between the Dong Tru Bridge area and the Vinh Tuy Bridge, Thanh Tri Bridge, and further connects to the Hanoi - Hai Phong Expressway.
