Authorities in Hoi An City under Quang Nam Province, central Vietnam have temporarily suspended Banh Mi Phuong, a famous bakery in the tourist city, after 31 people were poisoned by its food.

Banh mi, a type of Vietnamese baguette filled with cold meats, pâté, and vegetables, is a popular dish in Vietnam.

The Hoi An City Healthcare Center said on Wednesday afternoon that the establishment has been shut down pending an investigation into the suspected food poisoning.

The center on Tuesday afternoon admitted five people in a family due to food poisoning symptoms after eating banh mi at Banh Mi Phuong, situated at 2B Phan Chau Trinh Street in Minh An Ward.

The center put together an inspection team to investigate the case.

The team discovered many others receiving treatment at hospitals in Quang Nam Province and neighboring Da Nang City for food poisoning on the same day.

All of them had eaten banh mi sold at the bakery.
