Intense rainfall in Sa Pa Town, situated in Lao Cai Province, northern Vietnam triggered a flash flood in local communes, claiming at least three lives and leaving five individuals still missing.
The deceased victims were Vu A N., 24, and Vu A G., 32, both hailing from Lien Minh Commune in Sa Pa Town, and a local in Lang Giang Commune, Van Ban District, who died after whirlwinds knocked down their kitchen.
The missing people include four other residents of Lien Minh Commune and one person from Phin Ngan Commune in Bat Xat District.
The extent of property damage has not yet been quantified.

Preliminary reports showed that torrential rain on Tuesday evening triggered flash floods in Lien Minh Commune.
Many individuals noticed the dangerous situation but were unable to evacuate in time, subsequently being swept away by the rushing floodwaters.

Flash floods also destroyed all salmon and sturgeon farms -- a popular business in Sa Pa -- situated along Nam Pa, Nam Than, and Nam Cang Streams.
Numerous residences and other properties sustained substantial damage.

A team of 125 members was assembled to address the aftermath and conduct a search for those who were missing on Wednesday morning, according to Lao Cai Radio and Television.
The north and north-central regions are expected to experience persistent heavy rainfall on both Wednesday and Thursday, with warnings issued for potential flooding, flash floods, and landslides.
