Flooding will likely hit low-lying, riverside, and urban areas in central Vietnam as a result of heavy downpours lashing the region from now until the weekend, said the national weather center.
Central Vietnamese localities from Ha Tinh Province to Da Nang City are expected to see moderate to heavy rains between Wednesday and Thursday, with rainfall of 60-120mm.
Meanwhile, some parts from Ha Tinh Province to Quang Tri Province may see much more rainfall of over 300mm.
Phung Tien Dung, head of the Hydrological Forecasting Department, under the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, said the department on Tuesday had issued a warning against possible flooding facing rivers in central Vietnam.
From Wednesday to Sunday this week, flooding is forecast to hit the rivers from Nghe An Province to Thua Thien Hue Province, adding that flash floods and landslides could strike mountainous areas in these areas.
The department warned that flooding could disrupt waterway, aquaculture, agricultural production, as well as daily social activities.
In related news, the national weather agency said that a cold spell has affected provinces in northeastern Vietnam since Tuesday before spreading to north-central and northwestern locations.
It will become much colder at night and in the morning across northern and north-central localities, with temperatures ranging between 21 and 24 degrees Celsius.
Some mountainous areas could see temperatures fall below 16 degrees Celsius.
