A flight at Da Nang International Airport in the namesake city was delayed for over two hours for a security recheck because two passengers talked about a 'gun' after boarding the plane on Tuesday evening, the airport authority reported on Wednesday.
National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines had to halt flight VN186, scheduled to transport 97 passengers from Da Nang to Hanoi at 7:25 pm that evening, due to a security incident caused by two men on board, Q. and T., who had no checked baggage, the authority said.
After getting on the plane, one of the men asked the other, “Where is the gun placed?”, and the reply was “it is kept in the luggage.”
A flight attendant who heard the talk requested the men to repeat what they had said, but they explained that they had merely made a joke.
The attendant reported the case to the captain, who decided to refuse the transport of the two men, ordered the crew to make a record of the incident, and contacted the airport’s security for help.
The flight was therefore delayed and the airport’s security forces escorted the two men off the plane to their office for rechecking their body and hand luggage but no weapon was found.
A security check was carried out again for the plane and all the remaining 95 passengers along with their baggage.
One of these passengers requested the next flight due to health reasons.
After all necessary procedures were completed, the flight took off at about 10:00 pm, more than two hours late.
The airport authority handed over the two men to the police of Da Nang’s Hai Chau District for handling.
