Residents of Hue City, Thua Thien-Hue Province in central Vietnam are cleaning up their homes, streets, and local establishments that have been submerged in floodwaters for days due to persistent heavy rain.
Many provinces in the central region suffered four consecutive days of heavy downpours from Sunday to Thursday due to the impacts of a cold front, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
Thua Thien-Hue Province is one of the localities most severely affected, with rainfall recorded by the center on Wednesday reaching an average of 200-300mm.

As a result, widespread flooding has adversely affected the lives of local people, especially those living in areas near the banks of the Huong River.
When flooding started receding on Thursday morning, local residents immediately got busy cleaning up their neighborhoods.

The subsiding flood deposited a significant amount of mud, requiring residents to use water and brooms to clean their yards, sidewalks, and the roads in front of their houses.
In the center of the city, although the water has retreated from houses, some roads such as Hung Vuong and Ben Nghe are still submerged.

Do, who owns a phone accessories store on Hung Vuong Street, said that his venue had been submerged in water more than a meter deep since 3:00 am on Wednesday.
“Yesterday’s flood was almost as bad as the one in 1999,” Do said.
“Even with prior preparation, we did not expect the water to be so high.
“The flood caused severe damage to my store, resulting in significant harm to many of my goods.”

Employees of many state agencies and banks have also been mobilized to help clear out the aftermath of the flood.
Hue City’s military forces were deployed to assist in cleaning up state agencies and roads filled with mud after the inundation.
On Ben Nghe Street, boats are used for carrying tourists out of severely-inundated areas.
